Development Education Symposium @ Youth Work Ireland National Office | Dublin | Dublin | Ireland

The event will look at how youth workers can mainstream global justice issues into their practice. The symposium will provide an engaging discussion into the objectives of youth work particularly those that connect to social change, active citizenship and developing social analysis.

Contributors include

Dermot O’Brien Hi‐Rez
Dermot will speak about his innovative approach to involving young people in global justice issues.

Bobby McCormack, Development Perspectives
Bobby will provide a challenging input on the difficulties in bringing about real social and organisational change in youth work and how this presents difficulties for development education.

Alan Hayes, JEDI Training
Alan will talk in specific terms about how development education can integrate with clubs work, juvenile justice work, and other specific areas of youth work and how this integrates into the actual lives and experiences of young people in youth projects in Clare, Galway, Kerry and Dublin.

Jessica Carson Arts Participation and Development Programme, CIT Crawford College & Design
Jessica will be talking about creative methods to nurture competencies and values of young global citizens and how this overlaps with the competencies that youth workers strive to develop with young people.

Valerie Duffy NYCI Development Education Programme Coordinator
Valerie will give an input on the role that NYCI seeks to play in leading an ongoing discussion within the sector on improving the integration of development education into mainstream youth work.
